Seats
BMW incorporated fine leather seats in the 1995 540i. They were well made, substantial, yet serviceable. Standard front seats were motorized (electrically positioned) with the following adjustments:
- Raise/lower front of seat
- Raise/lower rear of seat
- Move seat forward/backward
- Raise/lower seat back angle
- Raise lower headrest
The driver seat also included a memory feature which allowed for three different seat, mirror (both outside mirrors) and steering wheel positions to be stored in memory and recalled.
Additional front seat options included electrically adjustable lumbar support and seat heaters.
The standard rear seat was bench style with a fold down center armrest. Options included moveable headrests, electric seat heat, and a ski bag behind the armrest. An additional rarely seen option was the fold-down rear seat; the rear seat was divided in a one-third and two-third part. The seat cushions and backrest could be folded down to carry long objects.
Under the rear seat is stored the electric battery, fuses, and control units.
